Sometimes the hardest thing is when your child is consumed with extreme worry and anxiety, and you don't even notice it.ย

Especially when a child is severely bullied at school, it becomes difficult for them to express their feelings, and they may suddenly become passive or harsh towards their family.

Try to understand your childโ€™s heart like this! I will join you in this effort.

Listening to a child's inner voice means being attuned to their thoughts, feelings, and needs. Here are some tips to help you do so:

Create a Safe and Supportive Environment

1. Establish trust: Build a strong, loving relationship with your child, where they feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings.

2. Encourage open communication: Create opportunities for your child to express themselves without fear of judgment or criticism.

Pay Attention to Verbal and Non-Verbal Cues

1. Active listening: When your child speaks, give them your undivided attention, and show that you're engaged in the conversation.

2. Observe body language: Pay attention to your child's non-verbal cues, such as facial expressions, posture, and tone of voice.

Ask Open-Ended Questions

1. Encourage reflection: Ask questions that prompt your child to think about their feelings, thoughts, and experiences.

2. Use non-leading questions: Avoid asking questions that suggest a specific answer or response.

Validate Their Emotions

1. Acknowledge their feelings: Recognize and validate your child's emotions, even if you don't agree with their perspective.

2. Help them label their emotions: Encourage your child to identify and express their emotions in a healthy way.

Practice Mindfulness and Empathy

1. Be present: Focus on the present moment and engage with your child without distractions.

2. Put yourself in their shoes: Try to understand your child's perspective and imagine how they might be feeling.

Respect Their Boundaries

1. Don't push them to talk: Respect your child's boundaries and don't force them to discuss topics they're not ready to address.

2. Let them know it's okay to say no: Teach your child that it's okay to say no or set boundaries and that you'll respect their decisions.

By following these tips, you can create a supportive environment where your child feels comfortable sharing their inner voice.
