"Five and a half years ago at the playground Keegan spotted a bunch of kids from a taekwondo summer camp. Curious as ever, he went over and talked to them and thus began our journey with taekwondo. Our family has been changed in countless positive ways by taekwondo. Most of the friends we've made after we moved were made through our involvement with taekwondo and now they're like family. My kids have learned lessons in perseverance, self-control, respect, kindness, hard work and resilience."

Summer is the season kids look forward to all year and they should. Family trips, sleeping in, pool days, video games with friends. Kids need that freedom. Play and rest are part of growing up too.
But summer is also the season where a year of hard-earned habits can quietly slip away. Bedtimes drift later. Screen time creeps up. Physical activity drops off.
It feels harmless at first just a few weeks of taking it easy. But by August, a lot of kids have lost more than just fitness. They've lost focus, structure, and some of the confidence they built all year.
That's why we believe kids need a place to keep challenging themselves, even in summer. Real confidence isn't given. It's earned.
Every parent wants their kid to feel confident. We tell them "You've got this" and "You're special" and those words matter. But real confidence doesn't come from being told something. It comes from doing something hard and proving it to yourself.
Finishing a form you wanted to quit on. Walking into a belt test nervous and walking out with a new belt. Getting knocked down and getting back up. That's the moment a kid stops needing to be told they're capable because now they know it.
Taekwondo isn't just kicks and forms. At its core, this is a program about character: discipline, respect, self-control, and the courage to fail and try again. It's not about teaching kids to fight. Summer especially with camps, new friend groups, and more unsupervised situations is when kids need good judgment more than fighting skills. They need the confidence to make the right call, the awareness to avoid a bad situation, and the courage to ask for help when they need it. That's the kind of strength we're actually building.
A note to our current families:
Family trips, pool days, summer camp all of that is exactly what summer should look like. But growth doesn't take a vacation. Students who make it to class even once or twice a week over the summer show up in the fall noticeably ahead sharper, more confident, and more consistent than the ones who took the whole summer off.
Consistency beats talent. Every time. And that habit of showing up is something your child will carry for life.
A note to parents who haven't started yet: If your child hasn't tried martial arts, summer is actually the best time to start. Less homework pressure, more room to build a new routine. By the time school starts back up, your child could be walking in stronger, more confident, and more sure of themselves.
Our goal was never just to hand out black belts. We want to raise kids who believe in their own potential, who don't quit when things get hard, and who know how to treat other people with respect.
Give your kids rest this summer. Just don't let their growth take the summer off. The sweat they put in today is the confidence they'll carry tomorrow.
