"Five and a half years ago at the playground Keegan spotted a bunch of kids from a taekwondo summer camp. Curious as ever, he went over and talked to them and thus began our journey with taekwondo. Our family has been changed in countless positive ways by taekwondo. Most of the friends we've made after we moved were made through our involvement with taekwondo and now they're like family. My kids have learned lessons in perseverance, self-control, respect, kindness, hard work and resilience."

A letter to every student who just achieved something great and feels a little lost.
To the new black belts out there,
First of all congratulations. You did something many only dream about.
You showed up, even when it was hard.
You kept going, even when it got boring or tiring. You stayed true to your goal “My goal is black belt!” and now you’re wearing it.
And maybe… you feel a little strange now.
😶 "Shouldn’t I feel more excited?"
You thought this would feel like the finish line. But instead of a victory lap, you feel a little lost.
You’re proud but also wondering…
What now? Is this it? Do I still want to come to class?
You're not alone.
This moment is more common than you think. And it's not a sign of weakness. It's actually a sign that you're growing.
🧭 You reached a goal. Now it's time to find meaning.
In the beginning, Taekwondo gave you something clear to chase: the black belt.
Now that you have it, there’s no longer a finish line in front of you.
But here's the truth:
A black belt isn't the end. It’s not a trophy. It’s a door.
Now, you step into Phase Two of being a martial artist.
You move from “student chasing a goal” → to “person living a path.”
This path doesn’t have stripes or belts to tell you you're improving.
So now, the question becomes:
“Can I keep going, even without rewards?”
That’s where the real Taekwondo begins.
🥋 What does it mean to be a black belt?
It’s not just something you wear. It’s something you carry.
Being a black belt means:
You are learning how to lead, not just follow.
You are responsible for your energy not just your kicks. You are practicing patience, not just speed. You show up because of who you are, not just what you want.
🔥 The fire needs new fuel now.
Before, your fuel was "I want that black belt."
Now, your fire must burn for something deeper:
To improve your character.
To give back.
To master the basics again at a higher level.
To lead with humility.
To make martial arts part of who you are.
This is the difference between someone who has a black belt, and someone who is a black belt.
💭 So… should you keep training?
If you’re wondering whether you should keep going the answer is this:
You don't have to.
But you get to.
You get to train even when no one is watching. You get to stay and grow when others leave. You get to become the kind of black belt that others remember not because of your speed or your power, but because of your presence, your kindness, and your consistency.
🧡 Final thoughts: What’s your new "why"?
You shouted for years,
“My goal is black belt!”
Now it's time to ask:
“What kind of black belt do I want to be?”
Because this isn’t the end of something.
It’s the beginning of someone.
Keep showing up. Keep learning. Keep becoming.
We are so proud of you and we're still right here beside you.
