"Five and a half years ago at the playground Keegan spotted a bunch of kids from a taekwondo summer camp. Curious as ever, he went over and talked to them and thus began our journey with taekwondo. Our family has been changed in countless positive ways by taekwondo. Most of the friends we've made after we moved were made through our involvement with taekwondo and now they're like family. My kids have learned lessons in perseverance, self-control, respect, kindness, hard work and resilience."

A 16-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday and slapped with an attempted murder charge for allegedly stabbing his classmate during a gruesome attack inside a New Jersey high school, prosecutors said.
The teen, whose name was not released due to his age, is accused of stabbing a 15-year-old male multiple times with a knife after a fight inside a bathroom at Fort Lee High School just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Bergen County Prosecutorโs Office.
The victim who was found by first responders and school security, suffered stab wounds to the neck, back, arm and chest.

I know it is hard when the place where you should be having fun studying, laughing, and having happy times becomes difficult or even dangerous. At that age, you have to be more careful because that small world is a time when you feel extreme fear.
It was heartbreaking to see and know the bullying is never ending.
Thatโs a very real and valid concern for parents, especially after something as serious as the Fort Lee incident. There are ways to help children stay safer and be more confident.
1. Build Confidence Through Martial Arts and Recognize Danger Early
De-escalation: Using words or body language to avoid physical conflict, and only use self-defense if absolutely necessary, which is taught during our curriculum. Always walk away if possible.
2. Open Communication
Encourage your child to tell trusted adults, teachers, counselors, and/or parents, about all bullying.
Stick with friends or groups because bullies often target kids who are alone.
3. School Involvement
Be proactive: Know the schoolโs anti-bullying policies and attend meetings to get to know the staff, and be a voice for safety improvements.
1. Verbal Self-Defense ("Talk First")
Teaching kids how to use confident, calm language is powerful: Assertive voice: "Stop", "Leave me alone," or "Thatโs not okay." Show confidence through eye contact and posture without using aggression.
2. Awareness & Body Language
Notice surroundings and stay alert.
Avoid risky areas like empty stairwells, bathrooms, or isolated hallways.
3. Physical Self-Defense (if thereโs no choice)
Use forearms to protect and block the head and face. Use breakaway techniques when grabbed, and learn how to twist out of wrist holds or shirt grabs.
4. Ground Defense
Use techniques from grappling to make them stop.
5. Use of Voice and Help
Yell for help: STOP! GET AWAY!โattract attention, not silence.
Create distraction by knocking over books, throw a backpack to get away.
Bullying can ruin lives. Our dojang educates children how to handle these situations. We always hope and support children to grow up happily.ย
